Story Telling Photography - Artist Research

Duane Michals

Art piece: Bogeyman (7 works)

I like the way the little girl checks the coat rack and then the coat rack changes into a person. Also, I like the way Michals has made it seem like you can actually see it happening and the way the photos are taken add to this effect. I think he will influence my work as I may consider the way he makes it look like the people are moving in every frame.

Art Piece: Paradise Regained.

I like how simple the photography is. Also, the way everything slowly changes from business like to being in a forest. This is portrayed through the use of cabinets and cupboards being replaced by trees and how the people dress down into what looks like nothing. I think he may influence my work as I like the way everything is moving around the people and I may consider trying to do this.

Cindy Sherman

Art Pieces: Untitled 97-100

Art Piece: Untitled A-D

Cindy Sherman is best known for her conceptual portraits. Sherman was the recipient of a MacArthur Fellowship. Also, through a number of different series of works, Sherman has manage to raise challenging and important questions about the representation of women in every day society, the media and the nature of the creation of art. Her photographs contain some of the most expensive photographs ever sold. Her work may influence how I take the photos of the people in my story-telling photography.

Sandy Skoglund

Art Work: Cold War.

Art Work: Walking on Egg Shells.

Art Work: Revenge of the Goldfish.

Art Work: Radioactive Cats.

I like Sandy Skoglund's photography as she uses really bright colours that stand out against the background. Also, all her work has a 'painted' feeling to them as she has to plan out her work and create the 3D objects. I think she may influence my work as I like the way she uses bright colours and I may consider trying this if it seems appropriate in my work.
